Scaffold Warning Labels & Ladder Safety Signs
Procedure
- Safe access and egress will be provided to and from all working places.
- Access to unsafe areas will be effectively prevented.
- Adequate lighting will be provided at all places at which persons are required to access or work.
- Adequate ventilation will be provided at all places at which persons are required to access or work if natural ventilation is inadequate.
- Noise levels will be reduced to the lowest levels practicable and persons will not be exposed to noise above 80 dB(A) unless suitable ear protection is provided and worn.
- Openings in floors, access ways, etc. and all edges will be suitable protected to afford safe access and egress.
- Openings in floors, access ways, etc. from which a person can fall 2m or more, will be provided with guardrails fixed at between 0.9m and 1.1m above the surface or, protected with immovable covers.
- All places where a person can fall 2m or more will be provided with guardrails fixed at between 0.9m and 1.1m above the surface.
- Ladders will be regularly inspected. Damaged and substandard ladders will not be used.
- Ladders will extend above any landing platform or landing place at least 1m.
- Ladders will be pitched at 75o, i.e. a 1:4 horizontally to vertical angle, except vertical ladders.
- Ladders will be secured preferably at the head or, if this is not practicable, at the foot at all times when in use to prevent slipping.
- Permanent vertical ladders will have hoops fitted to prevent the fall of persons at 0.5m intervals beginning at 2.5m above the surface or platform.
- Permanent vertical ladders will be fixed to structures with a clearance of between 100mm and 150mm to allow safe purchase for feet and hands when climbing.
- Where work cannot be done in a safe manner from the ground or the structure, e.g. at heights of over 2m, suitable access equipment, e.g. a scaffold will be provided.
